ABOUT US

The Sakhumzi Foundation Empowerment Trust was established in early 2018 with the primary purpose of facilitating sustainable economic empowerment of black people, in line with the B-BBEE Codes of Good Practice.

Sakhumzi is the combination of two Nguni words: ‘Sakha’, which means to build, and ‘Umzi’, which means a home, community or nation. This name is derived from the creed ‘to empower a child is to empower a nation’.

Sakhumzi was founded by KAP Industrial Holdings Limited (KAP). As a South African industrial company operating across a multitude of industries, KAP believes that it is their duty as a responsible corporate citizen to create opportunities to develop, nurture and prepare underprivileged young black people to take their rightful place in our society.
